As Compliance Manager, Zarina Groom-Baker oversees Hourani & Partners’ firmwide compliance framework, leading the development and implementation of AML/CTF controls, KYC processes and regulatory governance across all practice areas. She ensures that client onboarding, due diligence, risk assessments, and regulatory filings are conducted in line with applicable UAE requirements and international best practices, working closely with partners and lawyers to support corporate and transactional matters with a consistent, risk-aligned approach.

Prior to joining Hourani & Partners, Zarina spent more than a decade in legal and compliance roles within international law firms, investment groups and technology companies across the UAE and Kazakhstan. Her experience spans corporate governance, regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, incorporations, risk management, and cross-border legal support.

Zarina holds an LLM from Michigan State University College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in law from the Kazakh National University of Al-Farabi. She is CAMS-certified, a native Russian speaker and fluent in English.
