Nadim Khan is a Partner and Head of Banking & Finance practice group at Hourani & Partners. He is a UK-qualified lawyer with extensive regional and international experience, having led the Middle East and global Islamic finance practices at several Magic Circle and prominent international law firms.

Nadim has advised on some of the most significant finance transactions in the region, including pioneering Islamic financing structures and cross-border deals spanning Europe, the Far East, the U.S. and Australia.

His expertise spans general banking, restructuring, project finance, Islamic finance, asset finance, real estate finance, debt capital markets and regulatory compliance. With a strong track record in structuring complex financial products, Nadim has advised both major regional and international financial institutions, investment banks, governmental entities, multi-nationals, family offices, and corporate clients.

  • Prominent regional banks as junior lenders in relation to the US$1 billion debt restructuring of a major international investment firm
  • A leading regional investment bank in relation to a number of structured investments made by their conventional and Islamic fund in Turkey and certain ME jurisdictions
  • A consortium comprising a leading utility company, an international environmental services provider, and a regional development firm in relation to their successful bid, development, and financing of a new independent sewage treatment plant at an international airport in Western Saudi Arabia
  • Family office in relation to the structuring and implementation of a US$10billion divestment and demerger, with a corporate restructuring spanning across the KSA, UAE, Yemen, UK, US, India, Jersey, the Cayman Islands, Indonesia and Singapore
  • One of the “Top Four” US Banks on a comprehensive financial regulatory exercise analyzing various matters under the DIFC financial services laws and regulations as relevant to their financial products
  • A leading investment firm and a prominent national bank on the structuring of multiple Shari’ah compliant pan-European investment products for investment into real estate assets in multiple jurisdictions
  • A prominent regional bank and an Australian real estate firm in connection with the multi-sourced acquisition finance of logistics properties in Victoria and Queensland, Australia integrating both debt (senior and mezzanine, conventional and Shari’ah compliant) and equity elements
  • A consortium of multinational corporations in relation to the successful development and multi-sourced project financing of three separate co-generation power projects located at various key sites within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, financed by a mix of commercial bank debt, Islamic finance, and export credit agency debt. This deal was named Middle East Power Deal of the Year by the IJ Global EMEA Awards
  • A leading international bank on a Shariah compliant capital protected note issuance product (Hemya Structured Note) enabling investors to attain returns based upon the performance of equities listed on a selection of regional stock exchanges
  • A major Islamic bank on the financing of three Airbus A310 Aircraft two of which were financed in a Shari’ah compliant manner with the third being financed conventionally but as part of an integrated finance package
  • A leading financial group on a multi-vessel forward Islamic leasing arrangement involving the construction of three vessels by a Singapore shipbuilder, with subsequent leasing to a regional marine company in Saudi Arabia
